Tasting Room Wine Server - Starting April 2022

Shady Lane Cellars is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individual for a full-time/part-time position in the tasting room.  This position is responsible for the day to day service provided in our tasting room which includes, but is not limited to, opening and closing duties, providing a positive guest experience, sales, wine club sign ups, special events and teamwork. 

The tasting room at Shady Lane Cellars is housed inside a field stone building that’s over a century old and includes a large outdoor tasting experience.  Along with our regular tasting room experience we host music and other events throughout the summer.  Please contact Luke Hershey if you are interested in the position or 231-947-8865.

Winery Cellar Manager

The Cellar Manager position will carry out day to day winemaking operations under the guidance and instruction of the Winemaker. This person should be reliable, punctual, and ready to work alone or as a team. Effective communication as well as the ability to follow written and verbal instructions are imperative. Attention to personal and equipment safety is a must. This person should be comfortable lifting 40 pounds and working on their feet for most of the day. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Fruit/berry sampling and fruit/berry analysis (pH, TA, Brix)

• Fruit receiving (moving and unloading with forklift)

• Trucking fruit throughout the area (if employee is comfortable)

• Fruit processing; running de-stemmer, pumps, and press

• Equipment and facility cleaning and sanitization

• Fermentation monitoring and additions

• Racking and transferring juice and wine: filtering and blending

• Barrel work; topping, stirring, racking, and cleaning

• Wine additions • Bottling line set-up and helping run the bottling line

• Warehouse organization and inventory

• Maintain, service, and fix equipment as needed Important and Helpful Skills:

• Knowledge of the winemaking process

• Proficiency in basic math

• Proficiency driving forklift

• Laboratory basics
