Shady Lane Cellars is dedicated to offering you the best that Leelanau Peninsula can offer, which is why we’re fully committed to producing the highest quality fruit with the lowest impact on our environment.
As a Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) verified vineyard, Shady Lane Cellars endeavors to take great care of the land by practicing responsible farming techniques. By adhering to the program guidelines and our own environmentally-sound ideals, we are helping to protect the Great Lakes and our natural resources.
In addition to the MAEAP certification in 2020 we recieved the SIP certification from california based, third party sustainabilty group SIP. Meaning Sustainability in Practice, SIP Certified is a rigorous sustainable vineyard, winery and wine certification with strict, non-negotiable standards based on science and expert input, independent verification, transparency and absence of conflict of interest.
Certification addresses the 3 P’s of Sustainability – People, Planet, Prosperity – ensuring that both natural & human resources are protected. The rules, called Standards, require ameasurable, holistic set of practices addressing habitat, water, energy, soil, recycling, air quality, packaging, pestmanagement, social equity, and business management. Participants document over 50 requirements and implement practices to achieve 75% of the total available points. Practices verified through independent records and on-site inspections, and receive final approval from an independentadvisory board.
Our historic vineyard and surrounding grounds operate with a profound respect for the seasonal shifts in the natural environment and work within those variations to foster a symbiotic relationship with the land.
We commit every resource available to nurture our vineyard and guide the vines to produce fruit with the necessary components to craft world-class wines.
By combining new products, the latest technology, and traditionally proven farming techniques, we can reduce or eliminate the use of potentially harmful practices while increasing the efficacy of existing practices through proper timing and use.
